Preparing for Appointment

When you discuss the particular symptoms with your family doctor, you may be suggested to refer the specialist in treating the problem.

What you need to do?

It would be better if you prepare making a list of all the question well in advance –

  • Description on the symptoms you developed, their onset and any condition that made them worse or better
  • Data about the medical conditions you suffered earlier
  • Data about the medical conditions of your family
  • Medications and diet you are following
  • Any more queries you want to clear with the physician

What to expect from the physician?

Your health care provider will take a detailed medical history and perform a physical examination.

The following are some medical history questions  you may be asked:

  • Do you notice shortness of breath?
  • What other symptoms do you have?
  • Do you any struggle while breathing?
  • Did it slowly progress over weeks to months?
  • How long have you had this breathing difficulty?
  • Did it come on slowly or suddenly?
  • Do you make grunting or wheezing sounds while breathing?
  • Is there a sequence of separate episodes? How long does each last, and does each episode have a similar pattern?
  • Does the amount of breathing difficulty change over time?
  • Is your breathing pattern irregular?
