Chronic Cough: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Chronic cough is a persistent cough. It is not an illness; rather it is a symptom of other underlying diseases, mostly lung diseases. Therefore, if one is experiencing chronic cough then care should be taken and proper medical help should also be obtained.

Causes and symptoms of Chronic Cough:

As mentioned above, chronic cough is not a disease. Rather, diseases such as Asthma, Rhino-sinusitis, Sinus infection, and anxiety are the causes of chronic cough. In some serious cases, it might even be a sign of lung cancer. If for example you are suffering from a cough that lasts for more than two weeks, then go see a physician immediately.

Diagnosis:

Most people think that chronic coughs usually do not cause any serious health effects. In fact it could cause torn muscles, fractured ribs, fatigues, headaches, sleeping disorders, and irregular heartbeat, and hoarseness in voice.

Treatment:

The treatment of chronic cough is usually due to other underlying illnesses. Therefore, the treatment largely depends on the cause. The reason could be just a simple environmental allergy, or a severe cancer. If you suspect any serious lung disease then you should consult a professional as soon as you could. Waiting might just worsen the situation, especially if your cough lasts for more than few weeks you SHOULD go see your doctor.
