Breathing Exercise to Stop Snoring

The key to healthy life is breathing right.

Snoring results due to incorrect way of breathing. It is a very common problem among many individuals. However, the best part is that one can stop this irritating noise and enjoy a peaceful sleep by practicing some breathing exercises.

Since, incorrect breathing is the main cause for snoring, the remedy lies in improving the way we breathe. And what can be better than practicing pranayam? Pranayam are breathing exercises, that have been practiced since ages and are designed to clean one’s body and improve the concentration level. However, in order to benefit from pranayam the two main components required are patience and persistence.

In this article you can find a few breathing exercise tips to stop snoring.

Deep Breathing:

Deep Breathing involves complete breathing activity. In Sanskrit, it is referred to as Deergha Swasam. This pranayam teaches body to breathe correctly. Following are the steps for deep breathing

  • Sit in a comfortable position.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Now, slowly inhale through the nose.
  • While inhaling, let the tip of the tongue be touched to the roof of the closed mouth.
  • Hold the breath for few seconds.
  • Slowly and gradually exhale.

Humming Bee:

Humming Bee form of exercise teaches one to control the breathing activity in order to exhale smoothly. In Sanskrit, it is referred to as Brahmari.

  • Sit in a comfortable position.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Concentrate on each breath while inhaling and exhaling.
  • Take a deep breath.
  • As you exhale, start humming.
  • Exhale smoothly so the tone and the pitch of the humming sound remains constant.

Roaring Lion pose:

The roaring lion pose helps to clear the nasal passage and also activates the throat muscles. In Sanskrit, this form of pranayam is known as Simhasan.

  • To begin this form of pranayam, one needs to kneel and sit back on the tip of the feet. (known as vajrasan position).
  • Place your palms above the knees and spread your fingers wide apart.
  • Inhale slowly, through the nose.
  • While exhaling, open your mouth and stick out the tongue.
  • Throw out the air by making a roar (sound: haaa)
  • Keep your eyes focused on the tip of your nose.

In order to rejuvenate the body we need healthy amount of oxygen. Breathing exercises teach us the right way to inhale and exhale thus preventing the snoring activity.
