Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that makes the immune system over react after detecting an allergen in the body. The immune system produces immunoglobulins and mucus in the air passage ways, inflames and constricts the air ways making it difficult to breathe. Asthma has affected and is still affecting many people all over the world, and some of them, because of lack of awareness of their situation, make their symptoms complicated.   • In some adults and children with no previous record of asthma, viral infections and certain diseases of lungs, such as pneumonia, can increase the susceptibility of developing asthma in the future, so, make sure that there is complete recovery from such infections.
  • Being exposed to allergens for prolonged periods of time, whether in your work environment or because of lack of hygiene, can decrease your lung’s capability to recover and make you prone to developing asthma.
  • The children of mothers who are deficient in vitamin D during pregnancy are known to be more likely victims of asthma. Taking well balanced and nutritious food during and after the time of childbirth can help keep the child healthy with proper immune system.
  • Apart from all other precautions, keeping yourself healthy and fit is the best way to help your body fight off infections and diseases.

Preventing Asthma Attacks

Asthma attacks can be prevented easily by being careful and attentive to your body. By taking necessary precautions you can make sure that the attacks are abated. In some children who reach adulthood these attacks are significantly decreased and sometimes the symptoms completely disappear. However, that should not stop you from being careful, because, it can lead to adult-onset asthma.

  • Make sure that you take the preventive medication regularly and without fail as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Include regular physical activity such as yoga, breathing exercises or any other form of exercise that you prefer. Consult your doctor and physical trainer to work out a plan keeping your asthma in mind. Make it a point to get your body to be physically healthy and fit.
  • Take care of your eating habits. Eat food that can provide you with all types of nutrients, and include a good amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating heavy amounts as a full stomach can put pressure on your lungs making it difficult to breathe.
  • Try to avoid all possible triggers that can bring out asthma flare-ups in you. Always carry the rescue medication with you so that if there are unexpected circumstances in which you cannot avoid the triggers you will be prepared.

There are many people with asthma who have successfully managed to live their lives normally, participate in sports, and even become athletes. When you think of how to prevent asthma, making an asthma plan and adhering to it is where you should start. Taking medication properly, exercising regularly, having nutritiously balanced food, staying fit and having a positive attitude towards their life is the way to a happy flare-up free life.
