Lower Respiratory Infection

lower respiratory infection is a term used for pneumonia and other infections like acute bronchitis, lung abscess and emphysema.

Symptoms included are: weakness, shortness of breath, high fever, coughing, fatigue etc.

This kind of respiratory infection imposes a large strain on an individuals health and is much more upper lower respiratory infection.

There are many infections present today that can infect the lower respiratory track. The most common of them are: pneumonia and bronchitis. If its a bacterial infection, antibiotics are the first step to treatment.

Pneumonia:

Its is an infection affecting the alveoli and bronchioles. It occurs in different situations and the treatment should be carried out depending up on the condition. In adults, it can be a life-threatening disease. It can lead to death in children below the age of 5 yrs. The most common treatment for this illness is antibiotics. Pneumococcal bacteria is the main cause of this disease.

Bronchitis:

This can be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is either a viral or bacterial infection but most commonly a viral infection and affects the bronchi and trachea. At times if it is a viral infection, antibiotics wouldn’t help.
Chronic bronchitis is a viral infection and is the most dangerous.

Treatment

Antibiotics are the only means to cure lower respiratory infection.
